I Sold Myself To Survive... Then I Caught An Infection That Changed My Life.

I never imagined that the thing I blamed for destroying my future would also become the very thing that forced me to change my life. In my early twenties, survival came before pride. I sold sex.
Some people will judge me for saying that openly, but they were never in my shoes. They never knew what it felt like to have bills piling up, no family to lean on, and opportunities disappearing faster than they appeared. I wasn’t addicted to sex. I wasn’t chasing excitement. I was chasing rent, groceries, and the hope that maybe one day I’d never have to do it again.
I was considered attractive. Men wanted me. Couples requested me. I was also a pole dancer, and because of my confidence and personality, I became someone people recommended when they wanted discretion and excitement. My calendar stayed full.
Until everything changed.
It started with an itch.
I thought it was another minor infection that would disappear after a few days like it always had. I followed my normal routine, bought products that had worked before, and when they didn’t help, I visited my gynecologist. I was prescribed antibiotics. The itching would improve for a while, then come right back. The tenderness became unbearable. Some days even sitting comfortably became difficult. I kept convincing myself it wasn’t serious because I couldn’t afford for it to be serious.
Then came the night I’ll never forget.
I had been booked by a wealthy couple I’d seen before. They valued privacy, treated me respectfully, and paid exceptionally well. Everything seemed normal until the husband politely excused himself.
He looked uncomfortable.
“I don’t think tonight is a good idea,” he said gently. “You don’t smell as fresh as you usually do.”
His wife, trying to be kind, suggested I shower again.
I did.
I scrubbed myself until my skin almost hurt.
But when I came back…The smell was still there. It wasn’t overpowering, but it was noticeable enough that they decided not to continue. I drove home in tears. That wasn’t just embarrassment.
That was the beginning of my business collapsing. The circles I worked in were discreet, but people talked. Couples recommended companions to other couples. Before long, fewer messages came in. Regular clients stopped calling. I knew something was spreading faster than any infection ever could.
My reputation. That’s when I finally decided enough was enough. I returned to my gynecologist for more extensive testing. This time they discovered I had a bacterial infection. I followed every instruction given to me, took every medication exactly as prescribed, but I still wasn’t getting the improvement I desperately wanted.
Around that time, a Jamaican woman I occasionally worked with during larger private events noticed how withdrawn I had become. She quietly shared her own story. She told me she had struggled with similar intimate health issues years before and had worked with a herbal practitioner in Jamaica named DonMama. I had never considered herbal medicine before. To be honest, I was skeptical.
Still, I reached out. During the consultation, I told the truth. Every uncomfortable detail. What I did for work. Babe, that was the hardest thing i've ever done. How many partners I had encountered over the years. The recurring infections. The smell. The embarrassment. The fear. I expected criticism.
Instead…
I received compassion.
No lectures. No insults. No disgust. I was so happy about that. Just questions, guidance, education, and a treatment plan. When I mentioned to my doctor that I was considering using herbal treatments alongside my medical care, he advised against it. I respected his opinion because it came from his professional perspective. At the same time, I also knew he wasn’t living my reality or watching my livelihood disappear.
I made my own decision after weighing the risks and discussing everything carefully.
Within a few weeks my herbal preparations arrived from Jamaica. I committed fully. I changed my eating habits. I became far more disciplined about my hygiene and overall health.
Most importantly, I followed the recommendations consistently. About three months later…b Everything had changed.
The tenderness was gone.
The odor had disappeared.
The recurring discomfort finally stopped.
For the first time in a long time, I felt comfortable in my own body again.
What surprised me most wasn’t simply that I recovered.
It was how much I had learned about respecting myself.
I realized I had spent years protecting everyone else’s pleasure while neglecting my own health.
Today, I no longer work the way I once did. Instead of seeing countless clients, I train younger women entering the adult entertainment industry on protecting themselves, recognizing warning signs, and understanding that health must always come before money. I now accept only a small number of exclusive clients.
Ironically, I earn far more than I did before.
And my rule is simple.
Condom—or nothing.
No negotiation.
No exception.
Looking back, I also remember another fear that haunted me during those years.
I became convinced I had damaged my body so badly that I would never be able to have children. Every infection, every round of medication, every health scare chipped away at my confidence and my self-esteem. I blamed my past job for what I believed was permanent infertility. Whether that fear would ever become reality, I didn’t know, but carrying it made me feel broken long before anyone else ever judged me. Healing my intimate health didn’t instantly erase those fears, but it gave me something I hadn’t felt in years.
Hope.
Today, I am grateful for the Jamaican friend who cared enough to share her experience.
And I remain grateful to DonMama, who looked beyond my past and saw someone worthy of guidance instead of condemnation. Sometimes people don’t need another person to remind them where they’ve been. Sometimes they simply need someone willing to help them find a healthier way forward.
